PP‑TD30 / MD30: Material Performance and Application Analysis

PP‑TD30 refers to polypropylene filled with 30% talcum powder, while PP‑MD30 stands for 30% general mineral filled polypropylene. Both belong to mineral-reinforced injection-grade modified PP compounds. Compared with unfilled neat PP, mineral fillers greatly boost rigidity, thermal stability and dimensional accuracy, with outstanding cost advantages for household appliances, automotive and electrical industries.

Key Performance Characteristics

1. High stiffness and low warpageMineral filler significantly raises flexural modulus, reduces molding shrinkage and deformation. Parts can maintain stable dimensions after injection molding, which solves the easy-warping defect of pure PP thin-wall products.

2. Improved heat resistanceHigher heat deflection temperature than virgin PP. It can sustain long-term service under moderate heating conditions without softening, suitable for parts near heat sources such as air-conditioning and motor housings.

3. Balanced chemical and moisture resistanceIt resists water, weak acid, alkali and common detergents, features low water absorption, and performs stably in humid environments like bathroom accessories and outdoor electrical enclosures.

4. Good processing fluidityIt has excellent melt flow for injection molding, supports fast cycle molding, delivers smooth surface finish, and lowers production cost compared with glass-fiber reinforced PP.

5. Customizable functional optionsUV-stabilized formulation is available for outdoor anti-aging; halogen-free flame-retardant grade (UL94 V0) can be customized for electrical safety requirements. Most grades comply with RoHS and SGS environmental standards.

6. Cost-effectiveIt is cheaper than ABS, PC/ABS and glass fiber reinforced PP, becoming the preferred substitute for rigid structural plastic parts with medium load requirements.

Limitations: The addition of high-content mineral filler will reduce notched impact strength, so it is not recommended for scenarios requiring high anti-impact performance.

Main Application Scope

1. Home appliance industry (largest consumption scenario)

Washing machine shells and inner components, fan housings, air-conditioning outdoor unit parts, heater bases, water purifier structural parts, and kitchen appliance shells. This is the core demand in Malaysia’s home appliance supply chain.

2. Automotive interior parts

Automotive instrument panels, door trim panels, pillar trims, HVAC system shells, fan covers and non-load-bearing interior brackets. It is widely used for auto interior lightweight parts with high dimensional stability requirements.

3. Electrical and lighting components

Low-voltage electrical housings, junction boxes, lamp bases and LED lighting structural shells. Flame-retardant modified MD30 is popular for E&E and LED manufacturers in Southeast Asia.

4. Sanitary and building accessories

Toilet tank components, bathroom brackets, shower room fittings, outdoor garden furniture and plastic building decorative parts. UV-resistant versions are selected for outdoor exposure conditions.

5. Office equipment and general industrial parts

Printer and copier housings, pump shells, fan impellers, instrument casings and logistics support brackets.
